I did laundry with Grandma.
I just played with my mom.

What a fabulous day it was!  Thank you to all of the parents and grandparents for coming to our celebration.  We hope you enjoyed spending the day with us.
One of the learning stations was to draw a picture on the SMART Board.  We have been familiarizing ourselves with the SMART board over the past week, trying out the different tools while creating works of art.  Here are the children's drawings from our Fall Celebration and class time:

"Dragon Who"

Just a reminder that there will not be school on Monday, November 12th in lieu of Remembrance Day.

Today we talked about why we have Remembrance Day and what the poppy symbolizes.  Remembrance Day is quite an abstract concept for children to grasp; however, I feel it is important to begin talking about Remembrance Day at a young age.  We each shared our thoughts during our community circle after we read "A Poppy is to Remember" by Heather Patterson.  This weekend, may you all take a moment to remember those who fought, and those who are still fighting.

When we were at Fort Edmonton Park there was a big maze and we went in and it kept getting darker and darker and darker.  And then we found a way out and people snuck up behind us.

"Haunted House"
By: Elisha

There was a drawer and then there was a skeleton in it.  He had a straw to drink with.  There were two skeletons and the other one was in the closet.  There was a zombie in the other closet and the kids were sleeping - they were in a haunted house with their family.  And a ghost was with the zombie.

"Two Little Tigers and the Mean Monster"

Two little mean tigers were playing at the park.  It was Christmas and there were trees all around.  And they have really fun at home.  A bat was looking at them.

"Princess"
By: Lowyn

When I go to Disneyland, I was happy.  I went to see Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse.

Sadly, many students had to miss our puppet show due to the winter storm that blew in yesterday.  It was a great show put on by Dave and Janice, from the Edmonton Public Library.  The children experienced different types of puppetry and we noticed an immediate change in how they use the puppets in the classroom.  During the puppet show:
  • The students helped act out the story of the giant turnip - where the farmer, the wife, the daughter, the dog, the cat, and the mouse all had to pull together to get the turnip out of the ground!
  • Next we watched the story of 'The Tortoise and The Hare", which Dave told with both puppets and shadow puppets.  The children really enjoyed this story as the hare was quite silly.
  • We then heard the story "Meow Said the Cow", by Emma Dodd.  This story has been borrowed from the library and will be available to read with your child in the classroom next week.
  • Lastly, we sang the song "The Wheels on the Tractor" (sung to the tune of "The Wheels on the Bus").  Dave also used shadow puppets for this song.

Thank you to Jill, Finn's mom (afternoon class), for washing our dress-up clothes over the weekend!
